Kirk Wilcox is a comedian, writer, and overall, passionate humorist.
Backin 2003, Kirk Wilcox made two websites. One of them was a knockoff
of
"The Best Page in the Universe", where Kirk wrote and posted several of
his own rants which somewhat resembled Maddox. Kirk got some praise,
but also a ton of criticism for being a Maddox want-to-be.
The
other website Kirk created was JesusIsHitler.com. He co-created it with
David Beisiegel. The website it still alive, however does not have the
same domain name. It can be viewed here.
JIH
received tons of attention, gaining hundreds of thousands of hits in
less than a year. However, due to financial reasons, Kirk and his
partner were unable to fund the website. JIH is now funded and hosted
by a devout fan.
Eventually, Kirk got unmotivated with updating his Maddox knock-off,
and let his personal website go to the graveyard.
It
was not until Kirk went to college where he began writing for fun
again. He was able to do this for free using Facebook, as Kirk would
use the Notes application to publish his thoughts.
At first,
Kirk just did it for fun, and mainly wrote Facebook notes for his
friends. Somehow, his notes got surprisingly popular. Thus Kirk got the
drive to re-launch his own website.
FAQ
Your stand-up is funny.
When are you available for performances?
E-mail me
and put something along the lines of "BOOKING" or "STAND-UP" in ALL
CAPS in the subject line. From there, we can discuss dates, fees, and
the rest.
What's the story with
Prophet Pals and the Party Animal?
I
had the idea for the first episode of "Prophet Pals" one day in class.
I only intended it to be a one time thing, but then people seemed to
like it, so I decided to keep it going.
The "Party Animal" came
from when my friend took a picture of me in my underwear and sunglasses
my freshman year at college, and wanted to use it to make flyers that
said "You Want to Have the BEST PARTY EVER! CALL THE PARTY ANIMAL!".
After the fun I was having with "Prophet Pals", I thought it would be
fun use the "Party Animal" character to start another comic.
You're copying
off of Maddox! How dare you!
Yes,
yes, I know. When I had my first Maddox "ripoff", most of my hate mail
came from obsessed Maddox fans who had nothing better to do with their
lives but send me hate mail. Apparently if someone has a brilliant idea
and starts something great, nobody else is allowed to do it.
Besides,
rants is only part of my website. I also created comics and do
stand-up. So by that token, I guess I'm also a ripoff of Perry Bible
Fellowship, Electric Retard, and Daniel Tosh.
Furthermore, I have
the upmost respect and admiration for Maddox, and would never try to
copy any of his ideas for content. I'm just using the same tools.
What religion
are you?
I
am going to obstain from giving this information. I may, however,
mention it in a future post without knowing it. I do not believe in
trying to change who people are, and I think people should decide what
they believe for themselves.
How old are you?
I am currently 23 years old.
What is your
goal in life?
I
do not have any specific goal or agenda. I want to do what will make me
happy the most. Hopefully, it will be in the entertainment industry,
because I am the textbook definition of an attention whore. If I can
get paid for writing scripts, writing for a television show, magazine,
doing a radio show, or performing stand-up comedy, I think I will be
fine.
In fact, part of the reason why I started my website to
display how creative I can be. I think a lot of people who try to break
into comedy just go for one thing and hope it works. Some people just
do stand-up, some people just write, some people just make comics, some
people just do radio. I try to do all of them, because one joke or idea
that may not work in my stand-up might translate better in a comic or a
note. It's sort of like what Demitri Martin does with his notepad
sketches. When I have an idea that does not work in one area, I don't
want to just give up on it. Maybe it just needs to be used in a
different way.
You should write
a joke/note/comic about this topic
No.
To be honest, there is nothing more annoying and disrespecting than
when someone suggests an idea for my stand-up or website. I do
appreciate the ideas, but I have my own ideas.
Furthermore, if you
want to see a topic covered so badly, do it yourself. I encourage
anybody who wants their voice to be heard to start talking. Express
yourself.
